Morpheus8 Pre-Care & Aftercare Instructions

Important pre-care and aftercare instructions for safe healing and optimal results.

Face & Body Treatments
Skin Institute of Aesthetics, Wellness & Concierge

Morpheus8 is an advanced radiofrequency microneedling treatment designed to stimulate collagen, tighten skin, improve acne scars, reduce wrinkles, and improve skin texture on both the face and body. Proper preparation and post-treatment care are essential for optimal healing and results.

PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

1. Supplements & Medications to Stop (5–7 Days Before)

To minimize bruising and inflammation, discontinue the following:

• Fish Oil / Omega-3
• Vitamin E
• Turmeric or Curcumin
• Ginger supplements
• Garlic supplements
• Green Tea Extract
• Ginkgo Biloba
• Pre-workout supplements or fat burners
• NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, or Aleve (stop 48 hours before)

These supplements increase the risk of bleeding, bruising, and inflammation during treatment.

You may take Tylenol Extra Strength (Acetaminophen) if needed for comfort.

2. Skin Products to Avoid (5–7 Days Before)

Discontinue the following products:

• Retinol or Retin-A
• Tretinoin
• Hydroquinone
• AHA / BHA / Glycolic Acid
• Salicylic Acid
• Chemical exfoliants
• Scrubs or abrasive cleansers
• Chemical peels or resurfacing treatments

Your skin must be stable and non-irritated before undergoing Morpheus8.

3. Shaving, Waxing & Hair Removal

Men
• Shave the treatment area the night before treatment.

Women
• You may shave if the skin is not irritated.

Do NOT:

• Wax within 3–5 days before treatment
• Wax after treatment until the skin has healed

4. Hygiene Preparation

Proper hygiene significantly reduces infection risk.

Please prepare the following:

• Clean pillowcases
• Clean bed sheets
• Clean towels
• Sanitized makeup brushes
• Clean phone screen

Your skin will be treated as a controlled micro-wound, so hygiene is extremely important.

CLEANSER REQUIREMENT (VERY IMPORTANT)

The only cleanser recommended for Morpheus8 pre-care and aftercare is:

Hibiclens Antiseptic / Antimicrobial Skin Cleanser

Why Hibiclens is recommended:

• Medical-grade antimicrobial cleanser
• Contains chlorhexidine, which kills bacteria and microbes
• Significantly reduces infection risk after microneedling
• Helps maintain a sterile environment for healing skin
• Used in surgical settings for skin disinfection

Because Morpheus8 creates micro-channels in the skin, using an antimicrobial cleanser helps prevent bacteria from entering the skin during the healing phase.

Patients should wash the treated area gently twice or three times daily using Hibiclens for the first several days after treatment.

Avoid harsh rubbing or scrubbing.

Comfort & Healing Support (Recommended)

To help reduce discomfort, bruising, and inflammation associated with Morpheus8 treatments, the following supportive measures are recommended, unless you have allergies or medical contraindications.

Tylenol (Acetaminophen)

For comfort management, patients may take:

Tylenol Extra Strength – 1000 mg

This may be taken approximately 45–60 minutes before treatment and may also be taken after the procedure if needed for discomfort, provided you have no allergy or medical restriction to acetaminophen.

Avoid exceeding the maximum recommended daily dose and follow standard medication guidelines.

Tylenol is recommended instead of anti-inflammatory medications because NSAIDs such as ibuprofen may increase bruising and bleeding risk.

Arnica (Recommended for Bruising)

Arnica is commonly recommended to help reduce bruising and swelling associated with microneedling procedures.

Patients may use:

• Oral Arnica tablets or pellets
• Topical Arnica gel or cream

Arnica may be started 1–2 days before treatment and continued for several days after the procedure to support healing and reduce bruising.

Anti-Itch Cream (If Needed)

Some patients may experience temporary itching during the healing phase, which is normal as the skin repairs itself.

If itching occurs, the following may be used sparingly:

Hydrocortisone 1% cream

This may be applied in a very thin layer to the affected area to help relieve itching or irritation.

Use only as needed and avoid excessive application.

Additional Healing Support

The following measures are also recommended to support recovery:

• Keep the treated area clean and avoid touching unnecessarily
• Use clean pillowcases and towels during the first few days after treatment
• Maintain proper hydration
• Avoid heat exposure and excessive sweating for the first 48 hours

Proper aftercare helps support optimal collagen regeneration and skin healing following Morpheus8 treatment.

MORPHEUS8 AFTERCARE

First 24–72 Hours

Your skin may experience:

• Redness
• Mild swelling
• Warm sensation
• Small micro-scabs

This is normal and part of the collagen remodeling process.

During this time your skin should be treated like a first-stage healing wound.

Cleansing

Wash the treatment area using:

Hibiclens Antiseptic Cleanser

Instructions:

• Use lukewarm water
• Gently cleanse without rubbing
• Pat dry with a clean towel
• Always use fresh towels

Pillowcases & Towels

For the first 3 days:

• Use clean pillowcases nightly
• Use clean towels every time you wash your face or body
• Avoid touching the treated area unnecessarily

This reduces bacterial exposure.

Cell Phone Hygiene

Cell phones carry significant bacteria.

For the first few days after treatment:

• Avoid placing your phone against your face
• Use AirPods or Bluetooth hands-free devices
• Clean your phone screen with disinfectant wipes

Makeup & Brushes

If you wear makeup:

• Clean all makeup brushes before using them again
• Avoid makeup for 4 days after treatment
• Only apply makeup once skin irritation has resolved

Dirty brushes can introduce bacteria to healing skin.

SKINCARE AFTER TREATMENT

Hyaluronic Acid (Recommended)

For oily or acne-prone skin:

Use Hyaluronic Acid Serum only.

Benefits:

• Deep hydration
• Supports skin barrier repair
• Non-comedogenic
• Helps calm inflammation

Sheet Masks (Highly Recommended)

Hydrating sheet masks help:

• Reduce inflammation
• Increase hydration
• Calm redness
• Support collagen recovery

They are especially beneficial 72 hours after treatment.

Post-Treatment Skincare Instructions

Proper skincare after Morpheus8 is important to support healing, hydration, and optimal collagen stimulation.

Because Morpheus8 creates controlled micro-channels in the skin, the treated area should be cared for gently during the healing process.

Face Aftercare

Dry Skin Patients

If you naturally have dry skin, the use of Aquaphor Healing Ointment is recommended during the first 24–48 hours after treatment.

Aquaphor helps:

• Protect the skin barrier
• Reduce moisture loss
• Support healing of the treated skin

Apply a very thin layer to the treated area if the skin feels tight or dry.

Oily or Acne-Prone Skin Patients

If you have oily or acne-prone skin, it is recommended to avoid heavy occlusive ointments such as Aquaphor, as they may clog pores.

Instead, patients may use:

Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Benefits include:

• Lightweight hydration
• Helps maintain the skin barrier
• Non-comedogenic
• Supports healing without clogging pores

Apply a gentle hyaluronic acid serum to the face and neck as needed for hydration.

Body Aftercare

For Morpheus8 treatments performed on the body, the use of Aquaphor Healing Ointment is recommended to support the healing process.

Apply a thin protective layer to the treated body area to help:

• Maintain hydration
• Protect the skin barrier
• Support tissue recovery

Avoid tight clothing and allow the treated area to heal properly.

PRP Aftercare (If PRP Was Performed)

If PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) was included in your Morpheus8 treatment, a portion of the PRP may be applied topically to the skin immediately after the procedure.

PRP contains concentrated growth factors that help:

• Support tissue regeneration
• Enhance collagen production
• Improve healing and recovery
• Optimize overall treatment results

The PRP is allowed to absorb into the micro-channels created during the procedure, helping to stimulate regenerative processes within the skin.

Important Reminder

During the healing phase:

• Avoid harsh skincare products
• Avoid exfoliants, retinoids, or acids
• Keep the treated area clean
• Use clean pillowcases and towels
• Avoid touching the skin unnecessarily

Proper post-treatment care helps support optimal healing and collagen remodeling following Morpheus8 treatment.

BODY MORPHEUS8 AFTERCARE

If you had treatment on the body:

Clean the area using Hibiclens cleanser.

Avoid:

• Tight clothing
• Waist trainers
• Compression garments
• Excess sweating

Wear loose clothing so the skin can heal properly.

ACTIVITY RESTRICTIONS

Avoid the following for 72 hours:

• Heavy workouts
• Sauna or steam rooms
• Hot yoga
• Jacuzzis
• Excess sweating

Heat increases inflammation and swelling.

PRP Enhancement Upgrade (Highly Recommended)

For patients who want to maximize their Morpheus8 results, we offer the option to enhance your treatment with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma).

PRP is created using a small sample of your own blood. The blood is processed to concentrate powerful growth factors and regenerative proteins, which are then applied or injected into the skin during your Morpheus8 treatment.

Because Morpheus8 creates controlled micro-channels in the skin, PRP can penetrate deeper into the tissue where it stimulates collagen production, tissue repair, and skin regeneration.

When combined, Morpheus8 and PRP work synergistically to enhance skin rejuvenation and accelerate recovery.

Benefits of Adding PRP to Morpheus8

PRP may help:

• Accelerate skin healing and recovery
• Enhance collagen and elastin production
• Improve overall skin texture and tone
• Reduce redness and inflammation
• Improve acne scars and skin irregularities
• Support faster tissue repair and regeneration
• Enhance overall rejuvenation results

PRP delivers concentrated growth factors directly into the microchannels created during treatment, allowing deeper penetration and improved tissue repair.

Who Benefits Most From PRP

PRP is especially beneficial for patients treating:

• Acne scars
• Skin texture irregularities
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Skin laxity
• Dull or aging skin

What Makes PRP Unique

PRP is considered a natural regenerative treatment because it uses your own blood’s growth factors to stimulate cellular repair.

These growth factors help signal the skin to:

• Produce new collagen
• Repair damaged tissue
• Improve skin quality
• Restore healthier skin structure

Optional Treatment Enhancement

PRP may be added to your Morpheus8 treatment as an optional upgrade to maximize skin regeneration and overall results.

If you would like to include the PRP enhancement, please let us know before your appointment so we can prepare your treatment accordingly.

Sun Exposure & Tanning After Morpheus8

Following Morpheus8 treatment, the skin is more sensitive to heat and ultraviolet exposure. To prevent complications such as irritation or hyperpigmentation, the following guidelines are recommended.

Sun Exposure

Patients should avoid direct sun exposure for at least 7–10 days after treatment.

When outdoors:

• Wear broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher
• Use protective clothing such as hats
• Avoid prolonged sun exposure during peak hours

Excessive sun exposure too soon after treatment may increase the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, especially in patients with higher Fitzpatrick skin types.

Spray Tanning & Sun Tanning

Spray tanning should be avoided for at least 10–14 days after Morpheus8 treatment.

The skin must be fully healed before applying tanning products to prevent irritation and uneven pigmentation.

Sun tanning or tanning beds should be avoided for at least 2 weeks after treatment.

Tanning too soon can increase inflammation and may negatively affect healing and results.

Scheduling Other Treatments After Morpheus8

To allow proper skin recovery and avoid complications from combining heat-based or invasive treatments, the following waiting periods are recommended.

Botox / Neurotoxins

Patients should wait at least 7 days after Morpheus8 before receiving Botox or other neurotoxins.

Dermal Fillers

Patients should wait approximately 2 weeks after Morpheus8 before receiving dermal fillers in the treated area.

PDO Threads

Patients should wait at least 4 weeks before undergoing PDO thread procedures.

CO2 Laser or Resurfacing Lasers

More aggressive resurfacing treatments such as CO2 lasers should be performed 4–6 weeks after Morpheus8.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels should be scheduled at least 2 weeks after Morpheus8, once the skin barrier has fully recovered.

Tattoo Removal

Laser tattoo removal treatments should be scheduled approximately 3–4 weeks after Morpheus8, depending on the treatment area and skin healing.

Next Morpheus8 Session

Morpheus8 treatments are typically performed in a series for optimal results.

Most patients schedule their next session every 4–6 weeks, depending on the treatment area and skin condition.

Multiple sessions may be recommended for concerns such as:

• Acne scars
• Skin laxity
• Cellulite
• Stretch marks
• Body contouring

Your provider will guide the appropriate treatment schedule based on your individual skin goals.

Important Reminder

During the healing period:

• Avoid excessive heat and sun exposure
• Avoid tanning products until the skin has fully healed
• Follow all recommended skincare and hygiene instructions

Proper timing between treatments helps ensure safe healing and optimal results.

Leaving the Clinic After Your Morpheus8 Treatment

Immediately after Morpheus8, your skin will be more sensitive to heat, sunlight, and environmental exposure. Because the treatment creates controlled micro-channels in the skin, the treated area should be protected during the early healing phase.

For this reason, patients are strongly recommended to avoid prolonged sun exposure immediately after their appointment.

Transportation Recommendation

If possible, it is recommended to take an Uber, Lyft, or other vehicle transportation directly home after your appointment, especially during peak sunlight hours.

This is particularly important if you live nearby and would normally walk.

Walking outdoors in direct sun or heat immediately after Morpheus8 can increase:

• Skin irritation
• Inflammation
• Redness and swelling
• Risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
• Heat-related discomfort

Your skin will be more vulnerable to UV exposure and environmental bacteria immediately following treatment.

If You Must Be Outdoors

If outdoor exposure cannot be avoided:

• Wear a wide-brim hat
• Avoid direct sunlight as much as possible
• Limit outdoor exposure time
• Travel directly home after your appointment

Why This Is Important

Immediately after Morpheus8, the skin is in a controlled healing state. Protecting the treated area from heat, sunlight, and environmental exposure helps support:

• Proper collagen remodeling
• Reduced inflammation
• Safer healing
• Optimal treatment results

Patients who protect their skin carefully during the first 24–72 hours typically experience better recovery and overall outcomes.

Morpheus8 Healing Process: Understanding Different Skin Responses

Morpheus8 RF Microneedling stimulates deep collagen remodeling and skin tightening beneath the surface. Because the treatment works at multiple depths of the skin, healing can vary from person to person.

Some patients experience mild redness for only 24–48 hours, while others may notice temporary grid marks, dryness, or sensitivity for several days. Skin type, treatment intensity, lifestyle, and aftercare all influence the recovery process.

This video provides an educational day-by-day overview of possible skin responses after Morpheus8.

Important to note:

This timeline does not mean your healing will take this long. Many patients recover quickly with minimal visible downtime, while others may take a few additional days depending on their skin and treatment settings.

Morpheus8 continues to stimulate collagen production for weeks to months after treatment, improving texture, tightening the skin, and refining pores over time.

Always follow your provider’s personalized pre-care and aftercare instructions for the best results.
